Description
The Common Core Critical Verbs Vocabulary PowerPoint will help your students learn and use the vocabulary they need to succeed. These are “The critical words you students must know for the Common Core State Standards!” (Marilee Sprenger).
My goal when I designed this product for my 3rd grade students was to highlight the verbs that appear most often in the Common Core standards. I also wanted to integrate my vocabulary instruction with my literature response lessons. You can use this resource in grades 3 through 8.
What is in the resource pack:
Each slide includes a verb, it’s definition, synonyms, and a sample question or statement using the verb. In addition, I have used information from two picture books to demonstrate how to respond to literature using these verbs. The books are The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith and June 29, 1999, by David Wiesner.
The package includes the following materials:
- Power Point Presentation: (31 slides) 25 critical verb slides and two slides with summaries of the picture books;
- The resource pack also includes a PDF version of the PowerPoint;
- Sample verbs: assess, distinguish, analyze, delineate, support, infer;
- Teacher Notes: (31 pages, PDF) Includes smaller pictures of each slide with additional synonyms and suggestions for prompts;
- Student Companion: (32 pages, PDF) includes journal pages for each verb with definition;
- There are places for prompt and response.
- You can use these sheets with any reading text or novel.
Our Common Core Critical Verbs Vocabulary PowerPoint resource pack is a great language arts resource. You can integrate vocabulary instruction into your reading lessons and your students’ reading responses.
